S.R. 164 & Meridian Road

Dubois County, Indiana

Before improvement, this four-way stop intersection suffered from substandard sight distance, provided no auxiliary lanes and allowed only through movements. Further, the intersection sight distance was restricted due to six-foot-high 2:1 backslopes on the southern quadrants.

The intersection was widened to provide exclusive left-turn lanes and through/right-turn lanes at all approaches. An urban curb and gutter section was used to minimize right-of-way and control storm water. The vertical grade of Meridian Road was reestablished to meet stopping sight distance requirements. New strain poles were placed for a future eight-phase traffic signal.

The project included total pavement reconstruction and widening, new curb and gutters, storm sewers, traffic signal, and signage.
