S.R. 42

Morgan County, Indiana

sr42-2

This widening and resurfacing of 5.90 miles of S.R. 42 included reconstruction and new alignment at five locations where horizontal and vertical corrections were needed. The existing roadway had narrow 10-foot lanes with 1-foot paved shoulders. Only a few of the intersections met sight distance requirements. Drainage was also a problem.

Improvements included: widening of the roadway pavement and shoulders; pavement replacement at sites undergoing vertical or horizontal realignment; and intersection improvements. Within the town of Monrovia, pavement was totally reconstructed, and new curbs, gutters, sidewalks and a storm sewer system were installed. Acquisition of 34 acres of permanent right-of-way was required to construct the project, with an additional 1.69 acres of temporary right-of-way at various locations.

Certified Engineering was responsible for: project management; design survey; road design; drainage design; signing design; pavement marking design; erosion control; and maintenance of traffic.
