The rehabilitation of 0.7 miles of U.S. 52 in New Palestine, Indiana, was needed for several reasons. The mix of residential and commercial properties along the corridor suffered from roadway deterioration and frequent repairs. The existing drainage system was inefficient and deteriorated. Stopping distances in key sections were substandard. Levels of service along the mainline and at intersections were marginal and grew worse as traffic volumes increased.

The road rehabilitation included total pavement reconstruction and widening to provide for a new two-way left-turn lane. The project included new curb and gutters, storm sewers, sidewalks, retaining walls and signage. The majority of the project was completed within the existing right-of-way with only corner cuts required.
